Professional Experience
Eleven years as an independent consultant, legal advisor, and expert witness. Clients include U.S. and foreign shipyards; U.S. and foreign legal firms involved in arbitration or other legal proceedings; and engineering companies. Scope of advisory services include technical evaluation, dispute resolution, patent analysis, market analysis and evaluation of oilfield development programs. Served as the lead technical advisor in London for 9 months preparing for and participating in a London Arbitration. Instrumental in settling another London Arbitration (combined claims of $103,000,000). Served as an arbitrator (neutral) on arbitration panels and currently an AAA and HMAA Neutral.
Twenty four years with the Offshore Company (now Transocean Sedco Forex Inc.). Served as Project Engineer; Manager of Engineering; VP of Engineering, Construction, Research & Development; Managing Director of European subsidiary; Senior VP Operations; Senior VP of Business Development (the number two position in the company). Actively participated in and usually managed the in house: design, contract negotiations, construction supervision and resolution of shipyard extra claims for 26 large (10 state of the art) mobile offshore drilling units (constructed in 8 countries) as well as numerous drilling rig modification programs and upgrades. Actively participated in licensing technology and patent rights related to offshore drilling units. Personally conducted non-construction related company business in 21 additional countries including 3 "Iron Curtain" countries and China.
Four years with Brown & Root Inc. as a project engineer. Projects primarily related to marine and heavy lift projects.
Three years as a U.S. Navy engineering officer on an active U.S. destroyer in the Pacific.
